Impressions of Calgary

Impressions of Calgary

This is the first of a set of three oil paintings commissioned by a couple to enhance their dining room. This couple has lived in each of the three western Canadian provinces. – Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. They have provided me with three scenes that are memorable to them from each of these provinces. I began with the Alberta painting as it was one of the first we discussed. They lived in Calgary and had a beautiful view of the downtown from their home for a few years. Attending many events at the Saddledome , this was an important player in the composition and viewing of the downtown. Some of the downtown buildings were eliminated in order to catch a glimpse of the mountains in the background. Artistic license really adds to the enjoyment of creativity. The evening sky is a central feature, and is reflected on the cityscape below. This painting and the two to follow are 48“ x 32“ on gallery stretched linen. I will be painting the edges black and the new owners plan to set the paintings in black floater frames. These canvases were hand stretched by myself to accommodate the chosen dimensions.
