Red Barn in Big Muddy

This painting was begun on location west of the renowned Castle Butte - a popular tourist attraction in badlands known as "Big Muddy" in Saskatchewan. Castle Butte is actually on private property, but the landowners allow visitation from spring through autumn. I loved the light as the sun was descending behind me. It was great meeting the rancher who was multigenerational in caring for this land. In the past they've had some unsavory characters in the area, so he always keeps a watchful eye. And he reassured me there were no rattlers in the area... only bull-snakes! Yikes!!!
