The Three Amigos

The Three Amigos is based upon my viewing several wild horses from the Salt River wild herd. I’ve had the pleasure of tubing down the Salt River in Arizona twice during the warm summer months. On my first trip at the end of June, the river was lazier and we could see many large fish in it, but not too much wildlife apart from birds along its course. Much to my delight on the second trip in May the river was somewhat swifter and at about four points the wild horses gathered on the banks and even entered and crossed the river near us. It was all I hoped for to see these majestic animals in their natural environment. This oil painting is based upon three sorrels watering and feeding on the grasses at the edge of the river. It is 16 x 20“ in size painted on Gallery cradle board with finished edges.
