Waking Up for the Night

This great horned owl spent a day sleeping in the spruce tree by my studio last spring. As I watched the glowing rays of sundown he became alert and over the course of an hour began to stretch his wings, take a few steps, and watch his surroundings. The beauty of the golden glow cast on him captivated me as I saw beautiful warm pinks, yellows and oranges on his face and feathers. I knew as night fell he would fly off to hunt and carry on his journey. My art studio is on the second floor so I was able to share the day with him at close eye level.
